Congratulations to all of last week’s announced nominees for the 81st Oscar awards.
I could not help feeling that this year’s nominees are a little weak. There are definitely some intriguing works up there: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has the most nominations. However, other works that are walking away with nominations include ’Tropic Thunder’ or ‘Rachel Gets Married’. These works, while I do not argue about the quality or entertainment value of such works, simply do not seem to be Oscar material. Maybe it was just a weak year for films, I’m not sure. Maybe I am simply wrong – I did not get a chance to see a good number of these films, although many simply never interested me in the first place. I suppose what I am trying to say is – Where are the real masterpieces? Where are the ‘Gone with the Winds’s of the year?
Regardless, best of luck to all nominees.
